Muni head forgoes raise to help balance budget deficit

Staff and Wire Report

Nathaniel Ford, the head of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency — The City’s highest paid public employee, with a base salary of $315,140 — has agreed to forgo his annual raise as the agency tackles a $40 million budget deficit and ongoing cuts in state funding. His raise could have added up to more than $40,000. He will, however, be able to cash out any accrued holidays and executive-leave hours.

Good example. Good move.

Not a good example. he makes the top salary in the city and gets paid even if he fails at his job. this is a token amount and does very little about the massive cuts the progressives in city hall are pushing to cut muni funding.

Cannot believe this huckster earns such an outrageous salary while MUNI has only worsened under his command. Drivers and station agents have become (if possible) even ruder and less concerned/more indifferent about those using the system; vehicles are filthy and schedules ignored (I saw a row of 4 #5 Fultons pull up to an overcrowded bus stop last night; the driver of the first was screaming at passengers to get on the other buses since she'd "had enough"). Yet another example of the way that those who are politically connected coast through their jobs with absolutely no accountability in this city.

A hundred bucks says the Mayor ASKED him firmly to forego the raise. Director Ford has the worst run agency in city govt. In fact, it's a joke in City Hall. Resignation likely next year.

How could this guy have possibly achieved any quantifiable goals that would entitle him to earning a bonus? SF Govt is out of control.
