San Bruno woman killed in hit-and-run early Thursday identified

A woman killed in a hit-and-run on El Camino Real in San Bruno early Thursday morning has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner’s office as 61-year-old Sondra Gentile.

Gentile, a San Bruno resident, was exiting Interstate Highway 380 at about 3:50 a.m. Thursday when her vehicle was struck by another car headed south on El Camino Real, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 21-year-old man, fled the scene but was taken into custody at his home at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to police. The man’s name was not released as of this morning.

The crash shut down El Camino Real for several hours Thursday morning between Sneath Lane and San Bruno Avenue.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
