Parking fees for BART passengers in the Peninsula are set to rise by a dollar next month.

Starting Aug. 1, it will cost $2 to park for the day at the South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae BART station lots.

BART frequently changes the costs of parking at the three stations to reflect current demand trends. When the parking fee at the stations was first introduced in June 2003, the daily cost was $2. It was later reduced to $1 and eliminated entirely in August 2004.

In February 2009, the $1 fee was reintroduced and in August it will go back to $2 for the first time since 2003.

Recent parking surveys at the lots indicate that there is enough demand to support a fee increase.

The agency said it will monitor occupancy rates at the station every six months to determine if the daily fee will stay the same, increase, or decrease.
