Mysterious tip leads cops to dead body

A 28-year-old white woman’s body was found in a Mission Street residential hotel Tuesday after an anonymous caller phoned cops saying he wanted to “turn himself in,” possibly for killing her, police said.

The anonymous caller reported the dead woman’s whereabouts Tuesday night, called a second time to say he was responsible for her death, but never showed up to the police station after the victim’s body was found in the 2000 block of Mission Street, police said.

Cops responded to the address around 11:35 p.m., police said.

The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy, trying to determine how she died. It was not immediately clear whether there were any wounds on the body, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

If foul play is confirmed, homicide detectives will take the case, Andraychak said.

Her name was not being released.
