FAVORITE PLACE FOR A MORNING BUN or BREAKFAST TREAT
Tartine Bakery & Café
WHERE: 600 Guerrero St., at 18th Street
WHAT: Morning bun (not to be missed, no substitutes)
INFO: (415) 487-2600 or www.tartinebakery.com
I am nuts for Tartine’s morning buns. They do it up right with the perfect mix of yeastiness, orange essence and cinnamon sugar. Make sure you get them fresh and warm — and be open to total taste bliss. Get there early, as they will be sold out!
FAVORITE PLACE FOR A DRINK
Bar Agricole
WHERE: 355 11th St., between Folsom and Harrison streets
WHAT: Classy new joint in SOMA; near all of it
INFO: (415) 355-9400 or www.baragricole.com
This new place is a modern urban tavern — groovy and popular atmosphere in SoMa with truly handcrafted and unique artisan cocktails. The food is great too, but the drinks are outstanding and reasonably priced.
FAVORITE PLACE TO DANCE
Fresh at Ruby Skye
WHERE: 420 Mason St., at Geary Street
WHAT: Monthly gay T-Dance on Sunday evenings
INFO: freshsf.com
Once-a-month dance party for everyone from college hunks to silver daddies at a revamped old theater downtown. Lots of eye candy and a chance to have a drink and let go to the beat.
FAVORITE PLACE TO GRAB A CUP Of JOE
Peet’s Coffee — Castro
WHERE: 2257 Market St., between Noe and Sanchez streets
WHAT: Vanilla latte
INFO: (415) 626-6416 or www.peets.com
Friendly staff and a nice neighborhood cast of regulars. I love that they know my order when I send someone else in to pick it up!
FAVORITE PLACE FOR FRENCH cUISINE
Bisou French Bistro
WHERE: 2367 Market St., at Castro Street
WHAT: Small French bistro with fantastic flair
INFO: (415) 556-6200 or www.bisoubistro.com
I need a little French fix to take me back to Paris, and Nick Ronan at Bisou is all that it takes. Delicious food and a jovial atmosphere with a friendly and attentive staff. I highly recommend the Frissee salad, French onion soup and the Day Boat scallops!
FAVORITE PLACE FOR A KID’S BIRTHDAY PARTY
House of Air
WHERE: Crissy Field, 926 Mason St. in the Presidio
WHAT: Trampoline park in an old airplane hanger
INFO: (415) 345-9675 or houseofairsf.com
Way cool place to jump for joy. Kids and adults having kid-style fun in 8,000 square feet of trampolines. They have party tables, event rooms and showers since you’ll be working up a sweat. Snacks from DeLessio and coffee from Blue Bottle. Register online first and book in advance.
FAVORITE PLACE TO GET A GREAT SANDWICH
Ike’s Place
WHERE: 2247 Market St., between 16th and Sanchez streets
WHAT: Best takeout ever
INFO: (415) 533-6888 or www.ilikeikesplace.com
Ike’s at Lime is a bohemian sandwich shop that makes “take-out” a whole new thing. Their Dirty Secret Sauce is delicious, and the “Menage a Trois” is the best sandwich I’ve had in years. Get there early or call in your order to avoid the lines.
FAVORITE PLACE FOR A GUILTY PLEASURE LUNCH
Fresca
WHERE: 3945 24th St., between Sanchez and Noe streets
WHAT: Peruvian food for the whole family
INFO: (415) 695-0549 or www.frescasf.com
Relaxed, fun atmosphere any day of the week. “Fresca” means fresh, and the ingredients are always the freshest. Our family loves the Aji de Gallina, which is pulled chicken stew with aji amarillo cream, yukon potatoes, soft-boiled eggs, walnuts and steamed rice.
A trampoline park, dirty sauce and a delicious morning bun
