Knife-wielding suspect shot and killed by Burlingame police

Police in Burlingame are investigating a shooting involving two officers that resulted in the death of a suspect who allegedly charged at them with a knife on Monday night.

Two officers responded to a reported disturbance near 217 Myrtle Drive at around 8:40 p.m. and found a 20-year-old man armed with a knife, according to the Burlingame Police Department.

The suspect apparently advanced toward the two officers, prompting one of them to deploy a Taser, police said. The suspect continued to advance.

One of the officers then shot at the suspect, hitting him at least once.

The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting along with Burlingame police. The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is under way.

The suspect’s identity has not been released pending notification of his relatives.
