A jury is beginning to form in the trial of the three men charged with killing San Francisco police Officer Nick-Tomasito Birco in 2006. Birco was on his way to help out with a police chase involving a suspected robber when the van the suspects were driving crashed into his patrol car, which flipped and slammed into a light pole, killing him. Defendants Steven Petrilli, Carl Lather and Nicholas Smith face numerous charges, including murder and robbery.
