A federal judge in San Francisco ruled in favor of halting Medi-Cal payments in a case that The City helped weigh-in on.
The preliminary injunction allows “physicians, dentists, pharmacies, adult day health care centers, clinics, health systems and other providers” to continue to receive about $650 million in payouts that had been cut by state lawmakers earlier this year.
Independent Living Center of Southern California originally filed in Superior Court where the case was joined by San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera in a friend of the court brief. The plaintiff claimed that the state was risking patients’ health and the federal funds that match state expenditures for health care.
