What she does: For the last 14 years, Scully has volunteered part time at the Social Work Center at the St. Anthony Foundation, providing referrals for people in need of shelter, jobs, clothing, food and more. She also helps steer homeless individuals into rehabilitation and care programs, such as St. Anthony Halfway Houses and their Women’s Shelter.

Why she does it: Scully began volunteering at St. Anthony as part of a psychology course requirement at USF in 1993. She continued to volunteer there after she graduated. "As soon as the people we are helping can get some housing, then everything can change," Scully said. "They can work full-time and have a sense of security. It’s a big difference for them."

The impact: "Betty is a great listener, she’s very patient with our clients and she has a great sense of humor," said Susan Shensa, manager of the Social Work Center. "She has a very good relationship with everyone, and she really knows how to connect with people on an individual level."
