South City police search for man who held up cab driver

Police in South San Francisco are searching for a suspect in an attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver early Wednesday morning.

About 3 a.m., the suspect called for a cab to pick him up at the 2400 block of Oakmont Avenue, according to a report released by the South San Francisco Police Department.

When the car arrived, the suspect pointed a 9mm semi-automatic handgun at the cab driver’s stomach and demanded money. The cab driver, a 30-year-old male, panicked and stepped on the acceleration pedal, fleeing the scene without injury.

Police described the suspect as a black male with a mustache, medium complexion and slender build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with any information should call the South San Francisco Police Department at (650) 877-8900.
