Police investigating fatal Mission district shooting

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a San Francisco man in the Mission district early Friday morning.

Responding to a report of gunfire at approximately 12:05 a.m., police officers found Samuel Mitchell, 47, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at 26th and Folsom streets.

Mitchell was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died from his wounds.

The police are searching for a man they believe is connected with the homicide, but have not arrested any suspects yet.

This is San Francisco's 65th homicide of the year, according to police statistics. Police discovered a man on Aug.15 who was dead from a stabbing wound to his chest, but that fatality has been deemed a suspicious death. His identity still has not been released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
