Wire Report 10/3/08

SAN MATEO COUNTY – The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office today is searching for two men who robbed and pistol-whipped a resident of the North Fair Oaks area of the county Thursday night.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the 500 block of Hurlingame Avenue around 7:50 p.m. on reports of a man screaming he had been robbed.

Gilardo Mendoza, 43, told deputies that two men had entered his home, which also serves as a barbershop business, and pistol whipped him with a .22-caliber pistol before leaving with a wallet, according to the sheriff's office.

Mendoza was bleeding from his head and was transported to Stanford Hospital. His 37-year-old customer in the home at the time of the robbery was unharmed.

The other suspect has been described as a 19 or 20-year-old Hispanic man standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall with short hair and wearing a brown hat and brown sweater.

A van was seen leaving the area following the robbery, but investigators do not know what direction the suspects were traveling.
