Fatal shooting caps violent weekend in Mission District

SAN FRANCISCO — One man was killed and 10 other people were injured in a spate of violence over the weekend.
The homicide — at 8:30 a.m. Sunday — brings to nine the number of people killed in The City so far this year. Police said residents in the Outer Mission heard shots fired at about 8:30 a.m. Responding officers found the victim, identified only as a Hispanic male, lying wounded in the 5300 block of Mission Street. The man was rushed to the hospital, where he died at 11:20 a.m., according to police. No additional details were available.
Several other people were also wounded in a number of shootings and stabbings, although none had life-threatening injuries, police said.
Just after noon Saturday, two people in a car on Commer Court in the Bayview were injured when a man pulled up next to them and opened fire, police said. Both victims are expected to survive.
Seven hours later, police were called to the Hippy Hill area of Golden Gate Park, where they found a park visitor suffering life-threatening stab wounds. The victim was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital.
The stabbing was followed by two nonfatal shootings in the Mission District, and two more knifings in the Tenderloin.
On Saturday, two people were shot at the corner of 19th and Capp Streets just after 8 p.m. They were rushed to the hospital and are expected to survive, police said. No arrests were made. Twenty minutes later, a nonfatal stabbing occurred at the corner of Eddy and Taylor streets in the Tenderloin.
At 1:40 a.m. Sunday, a triple shooting was reported near the intersection of South Van Ness Avenue and 26th Street, police said. One woman suffered life-threatening injuries. Another woman and a man are expected to survive.
The violence continued with a 3:10 a.m. double stabbing on O’Farrell and Jones streets in the Tenderloin. Both victims are expected to recover, police said.
Two pedestrians are also clinging to life after being hit by vehicles over the weekend. A driver traveling northbound on King Street struck a man crossing against the light on Third Street at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, according to police. A second man suffered critical injuries after stepping off the curb at Eighth and Market streets Sunday at 11:44 a.m. Police say the man was clipped by the side-view mirror of a passing van, causing him to fall and hit his head.
