REDWOOD CITY — The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office was investigating Wednesdaywhether an explosive device found that morning was connected to a similar incident that occurred less than a half mile away Tuesday night in an unincorporated area near Redwood City, sheriff's Lt. Ray Lunny said.
An "acid bomb" was discovered Wednesday at 9:13 a.m. in the gutter near the intersection of Dumbarton and Blenheim avenues, Lunny said.
The bomb, a device containing two ingredients that cause a chemical reaction, was removed and rendered safe by a bomb squad with the
sheriff's office, according to Lunny, who did not know what ingredients the bomb contained.
No suspects were spotted in connection with the incident, according to the sheriff's office.
A similar incident was reported at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Warrington Avenue, which is less than a half-mile from the location of Wednesday's discovery, according to the sheriff's office.
A victim told sheriff's deputies that a suspect threw a plastic bottle filled with "fireworks" at her fence. Seconds after she picked up the
bottle and threw it across the street, it blew up, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspect in Tuesday's incident is described as a Hispanic man who is between 19 and 25 years old, has long, curly hair, and was wearing a black shirt, dark colored pants, a black wool cap, and was riding a bicycle, according to the sheriff's office.
Lunny said detectives are looking into whether the two incidents are related. The sheriff's office is also cautioning anyone who finds a
device to get away from it, to not touch it, and to immediately alert authorities.
