Deputy district attorney accused of rape

Wire Report 10/3/08

MARTINEZ – The arrest on Friday of a Contra Costa County deputy district attorney over charges of rape in Martinez came to light today.

Martinez police said they received information Friday of a rape that occurred several months ago and obtained a search warrant that led to the seizure of information consistent with the victim's statement.

Police said the investigation led to the arrest of Deputy District Attorney Michael Gressett, 41, a Martinez resident.

Gressett has been charged with rape, oral copulation, sodomy and penetration with a foreign object, police said.

The deputy district attorney unsuccessfully ran for district attorney in the county in 1994, 1998 and 2002.
