SAN FRANCISCO — Someone stole little Jack Daniels from a San Francisco animal shelter and his caregivers want him back.

The partially blind, 3-month-old black kitten, who roomed with his brother Jim Beam, was taken from the SPCA shelter in Potrero Hill on Wednesday afternoon.

The kitten needs medical attention, including vaccinations and ongoing care for his eyes, SPCA spokeswoman Kiska Icard said.

Workers at the shelter at 2500 16th St. realized he was missing around 4 p.m. when, while giving away his brother for adoption, they noticed Jack Daniels was not with him, Icard said.

“Our animals are not in cages. They’re all in rooms. So, someone saw an opportunity where no one was watching and took him,’’ she said.

The facility has surveillance in the shelter, but Icard said no one saw anything unusual.

Jack Daniels has a microchip the size of a grain of rice implanted in his shoulder, so any shelter with the same technology will be able to identify him if he is found, she said.

Icard is so eager to find the kitten that she is asking anyone with information to call her at (415) 760-4265.
