Police shot an 18-year-old man in Hunters Point Tuesday after the teenager allegedly knocked an officer down while fleeing in a stolen BMW.
The suspect is expected to survive the shooting in George Court, the cul-de-sac where he found himself trapped by police at about 7 p.m.
Earlier, according to police, four officers who were patrolling the housing development spotted a BMW they believed had been recently carjacked.
The BMW reportedly fled when officers tried to pull it over. The suspect was trapped when he turned into a cul-de-sac, Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.
The officers got out of their patrol cars and barked at the suspect to surrender. Instead, Andraychak said, the driver shifted into reverse, striking one of the officers and a patrol car. Two officers then reportedly opened fire, injuring the man.
The officer who was struck by the vehicle suffered minor injuries, Andraychak said.
Police believe the suspect, or vehicle, could be linked to several recent armed robberies in The City.
The incident marked the sixth officer-involved shooting in the Bay Area since Thursday.
