The San Francisco man who was fatally wounded in a shooting in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood this morning has been identified, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
The victim, 22-year-old Dominic Scott, was reportedly shot about 8:24 a.m. when numerous residents heard gunfire and called police, local authorities said. When officers arrived at the location of the incident, Third Street and Palou Avenue, they found the victim suffering from numerous gunshot wounds.
He was transported to the hospital where he died, Esparza said.
Responding officers also spotted a suspect, who fled upon their arrival, Esparza said. The officers chased down and arrested 22-year-old Cameron Williams of Fairfield at Keith Street and Quesada Avenue. During his flight, he apparently hid a handgun in the wheel well of a car on the street, police said.
Charges against Williams included homicide, gang enhancement and a felon possessing a firearm.
As of 10 a.m. traffic and transportation in the area was impacted, Esparza said. Palou Avenue was shut down in both directions and southbound Third Street was also closed to traffic. Muni service was also interrupted. Traffic resumed about 12:45 p.m. according to media reports.
The shooting was the city's eighth homicide this year.
Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to call police at (415) 575-4444 or by text at TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message. Police will also be canvassing the area for possible video surveillance that may have caught the incident on tape, Esparza said.
