Arthur Salinas was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of a sexual assault Saturday night in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood, police said Wednesday.

Arthur Salinas, 57, was booked on several counts of aggravated and sexual assault and for failing to register as a sex offender, among other charges. Salinas has past sexual offense convictions in Texas; he was sentenced to 60 years in prison in 1982, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was paroled in 2009.

Saturday’s incident occurred about 11 p.m. when the victim reportedly struck up a conversation with Salinas at a store in the 1400 block of Sutter Street, police said. The victim left the store and Salinas reportedly walked along with her for about a block until he allegedly forced her into a stairway and assaulted her.

Salinas reportedly fled and the victim returned home, where her roommate called police. She was then taken to the hospital for treatment. Police found Salinas at the corner of Franklin and Sutter streets the following day.

During the course of their investigation, officers found that the victim had picked up evidence that led to Salinas being identified as the suspect, police said.
