Police are searching for suspects in connection with a brutal attempted robbery in the Excelsior district last weekend that left a man with a facial bone fracture.

The 41-year-old victim, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, said he’s lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and had never experienced such a vicious encounter.

According to his family, he was walking to a store on Theresa Street near Mission Street about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when about five young thugs passed him on the sidewalk. One bumped elbows with him, then another suddenly grabbed him and slammed him against a wall, his sister said.

One attacker reportedly pointed a gun at his face while the others searched him. The victim fought back, said his sister, before he was struck in the face with the gun.

After cops were called, a man was found in the 4300 block of Mission
Street whom the victim identified as a suspect, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. He was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the attack. He is being held on a probation violation while the incident is under investigation, prosecutors said.
