Thieving thugs are apparently all the rage on Divisadero Street.

After a string of terrifying robberies over about a week and a half, the thoroughfare is being flooded with plainclothes and uniformed cops, Park Police Station Capt. Richard Corrales said Wednesday.

Between July 28 and Sunday, the police captain said, four street robberies occurred at either Divisadero and Eddy streets or Divisadero Street and Geary Boulevard. A fifth occurred at McAllister and Pierce streets.

Some of the heists occurred late at night, but others happened in broad daylight. A gun was used in one of the robberies, but it was not fired. As usual, Corrales said, cellphones were a prime target.

“When using your cellphone, please be aware of your surroundings,” Corrales said. “If confronted by an armed assailant, do not resist.”

Park Police Station is working “24/7” to address the street robberies, Corrales added.

He encouraged locals to tip off police to possible suspects.

“There are people that know the identity of these remorseless robbers,” he said.
