It wasn’t the smoothest of interventions.
Family members worried about a 25-year-old woman’s drug addiction went too far when they “rescued” her from her boyfriend’s Daly City apartment Feb. 22, prosecutors said.
A mother, sister, brother and his girlfriend are facing multiple misdemeanor charges after they allegedly stormed the apartment, assaulted its occupants and dragged the woman out in a headlock, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The family waited in the hallway until the boyfriend’s roommate came home and opened the door, Wagstaffe said. The couple were inside.
As the woman’s mother entered the apartment, she sprayed the boyfriend and his roommate with some kind of tear gas, Wagstaffe said. The brother then allegedly punched the two while the sister put the 25-year-old in a headlock.
The family forced her out and drove her back to the family home in Broadmoor.
A court appearance scheduled Wednesday for all four family members — mother Vita Marcum; brother Ben Oda and his girlfriend, Gwen Melad; and sister Kristina Oda — was continued until July 25. They are all out of custody on their own recognizance and have been ordered to stay away from the woman.
