Police are still hunting for three youths who beat an elderly man to death in a 2010 case that sparked racial tensions between blacks and Asians in the Bayview neighborhood.

A news conference will be held at the crime scene about 4 p.m. today.

Huan Zhou Chen, 83, had just left the Muni light-rail stop at Third Street and Oakdale Avenue on the evening of Jan. 24, 2010, and was on his way to his assisted-living facility when a group of boys assaulted him, police said.

The incident was compounded by other attacks around the same time on Chinese-Americans, leading to tense community meetings and heightened police patrols in the Bayview.

A $100,000 reward is being offered for information that will help solve the homicide.
