Driving while texting is dumb enough, but a man cops saw fiddling with an electronic device in Bernal Heights on Tuesday was behind the wheel of a stolen car, police said.
The suspected car thief was allegedly driving in the area of 30th and Mission streets, weaving back and forth while a patrol car was following him at about 8:10 a.m.
Officers saw that the suspect was looking down, “as if he was on an electronic device,” police said.
Police ran a records check as the car pulled into a gas station, which revealed it was stolen. Cops approached the vehicle to find that the thief had fled. Witnesses said the suspect jumped a nearby fence.
Cops found the suspect under a staircase, where he was arrested.
