Grieving loved ones of slain San Francisco medical student Joe Hernandez are holding a candlelight vigil tonight on what would have been his birthday.
They are still hopeful someone can help them find the killer.
"Please come forward and help give peace to Joe’s family and friends," read a statement released Thursday.
Hernandez was a fourth-year student at UC San Francisco who spent his 30th birthday working in the emergency room at San Francisco General Hospital. A month later, on Jan. 9, he was fatally beaten at Temple nightclub, according to police.
Hernandez was talking to a fellow medical student about graduation and their futures when he was attacked for no reason, police and family members have said. Several other fights had occurred during a chaotic night at the club, police said.
Police arrested a San Jose woman on charges that she assaulted a bystander who had been trying to stop the attack on Hernandez. But the arrest has not led to closure in the homicide case.
The candlelight vigil will be held at 6 p.m. in the 500 block of Howard Street near Second Street, near Temple.
