A woman who was stabbed in the Tenderloin hopped a cab to the Occupy SF encampment in order to seek medical treatment early Tuesday, police said.
The woman’s husband reportedly convinced her to go to the first aid tent at the Justin Herman Plaza camp rather than the hospital, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.
Someone at the camp told cops about the injured 24-year-old woman around 3:50 a.m. Police had an ambulance rush her to a local hospital, where she is in stable condition.
The victim told police she was near Eddy and Hyde streets around 3:20 a.m. when an unknown Hispanic man in his 30s tried to rob her. When she had no money, he punched her several times, Andraychak said.
According to the victim, “she noticed blood on her shirt and realized she was stabbed, so she called her husband,” Andraychak said.
“Why they opted to go [to the Occupy SF camp] for medical treatment as opposed to St Francis Hospital, I don’t know,” he said.
Police investigators visited the Tenderloin but found no crime scene, witnesses or suspects. Cops are searching the area for video surveillance footage, police said.
