Former City College of San Francisco Chancellor Philip Day will be sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty last month to misusing public funds and making illegal campaign contributions.

Day, 65, was accused of illegally diverting about $100,000 to fund political campaigns for measures benefiting community colleges in 2001, 2005 and 2006. He also allegedly kept a secret account to pay for parking tickets, alcohol at functions and a membership at an exclusive business club.

Day was chancellor of the school from 1998 to 2008.

Facing eight felony counts, Day pleaded guilty to three felonies Sept. 19, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

As part of the plea deal, Day will pay $30,000 in fines and restitution to the school in an amount to be determined by a judge, but will not receive any jail time, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Stephen Herman, 63, a former associate vice chancellor at the school, is also scheduled for sentencing today. Herman pleaded guilty on Sept. 19, to two felony counts in connection with the use of public money to support the 2001 and 2006 political campaigns. He has been ordered to pay $20,000 in fines and restitution, and will also avoid jail.

Another former associate vice chancellor, James Blomquist, 64, is still facing felony counts of misusing public funds and making illegal campaign contributions.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Nov. 22.
