Andrew Alan Vargas of Hayward was charged by the District Attorney’s Office on Monday with two counts of felony drunken driving and one count of felony hit-and-run in connection with an incident last week that left a 9-year-old Pennsylvania boy with serious injuries.
Vargas, 21, is accused of striking the boy as he crossed the street at Mission and New Montgomery streets following the Giants-Phillies game Thursday night. A woman also was struck during the incident, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
“The conduct alleged in this case is egregious,” District Attorney George Gascón said. “Driving is a privilege that carries a great deal of responsibility.”
Vargas is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in San Francisco Superior Court. The boy remained hospitalized as of Sunday.
