A woman who police arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing another woman in Potrero Hill on Monday has been charged with murder, San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon announced Wednesday.
Police found the body of Ernestine Herron, 26, of San Francisco, outside a home in the 1000 block of Connecticut Street, between 25th and Wisconsin streets, at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said Tuesday.
Dangerfield said that Herron and her alleged attacker, 48-year-old Maria Burgos, had been involved in “some type of altercation” on the street when Burgos allegedly used a knife to stab Heron in the neck.
Police arrested Burgos on Monday near where the attack happened, Dangerfield said.
The District Attorney’s Office said that an allegation for use of a knife was also charged against Burgos.
The motive for the killing and the relationship between the parties remains under investigation, according to the district attorney’s office.
“It appears that they knew each other,” Dangerfield said Tuesday. “They weren’t strangers.”
Burgos is currently being held on $2 million bail in San Francisco County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
