A gang-related shooting in San Francisco's Mission District at noon on Wednesday ended with one person hospitalized for a non-lethal wound to the torso, San Francisco police said.

The male gunshot victim was standing on a sidewalk in the 2800 block of Harrison Street between 24th and 25th streets, when a shooter suspect approached and fired. Police could not confirm if there was an exchange of gunfire, but the street was peppered with shell casings from a handgun. One home on the street had a visible bullet hole in a front window, although no bystanders were hurt in the shooting.

Officer Albie Esparza said the gunshot victim was taken by a friend to San Francisco General Hospital where he is expected to recover. The shooter suspect, described as a Hispanic male, 5’10” in his mid-20s, left the area on foot, last seen heading southbound on Harrison Street toward 25th street.

Esparza said police have no indication the incident is related to any other recent gang activity. He said Tuesday’s incident, along with two other lethal shootings in the Mission District and Potrero Hill over the weekend, would prompt increased patrols in the area.
