An employee at a market in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to charges that he shot a customer after an argument over a dog last week.
Sam Kazzouh, 43, of Fairfield, allegedly shot a man inside Fred’s New Lite Supermarket, located near the intersection of Haight Street and Masonic Avenue, at about 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 9, police said.
Kazzouh allegedly shot the victim in the back after an argument inside the store, police said.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The argument was over the victim’s dog, according to court documents.
Kazzouh was arraigned in San Francisco Superior Court this morning and pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.
Kazzouh’s attorney, Christopher Hite, said outside court that the victim “has had prior problems in the area” and said he is continuing to look into the circumstances of the shooting.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 3.
