An East Bay man accused of chasing another man into a coffee shop on San Francisco’s Polk Street last week then fatally shooting and robbing him was arraigned in court Friday on murder charges.

Jodie Daniels, 29, of El Cerrito, pleaded not guilty during a brief hearing Friday morning in San Francisco Superior Court in connection with the Jan. 13 slaying of Terry Turner Jr.

Daniels allegedly chased Turner past customers in the Jebena Coffee and Tea Co. at 990 Polk St. at about 4:20 p.m., cornered him in a back room, and shot him multiple times, according to police.

He then fled after the shooting, police said.

Turner, also 29, of San Francisco, was shot in the head and abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a bag was stolen from Turner. Employees described it as similar to a computer bag.

The next afternoon, Daniels was arrested at a home in San Francisco, police said.

Police have not discussed the possible motive for the killing.

Daniels’ newly appointed attorney, Mel Santos of the Public Defender’s Office, declined to comment about the case after the hearing.

Daniels faces charges of murder, robbery and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

He is being held on $3 million bail and is due back in court Feb. 23 for a hearing on the status of evidence being provided to the defense.
