Woman struck by bullet while parking car in Bayview

A 25-year-old woman was struck by a bullet while parking her car in the Bayview district Friday night, a police spokesman said.

The woman was parking her car near the intersection of La Salle Avenue and Newhall Street at about 9:40 p.m. when she heard a gunshot and realized she had been struck in her lower half, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

She drove to four blocks to the intersection of Oakdale Avenue and Phelps Street before calling police, Esparza said, and she was transported to San Francisco General Hospital.

The woman's injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Esparza said.

No suspect information was available, and the shooting remains under investigation.

Witnesses and anyone with information are asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444, or to text a tip to TIP411.
