Polk Gulch merchant robbed while opening business

A woman was robbed at gunpoint while opening a Polk Gulch business Thursday morning, police said. The thug, described as a man in his 20s, reportedly pulled out a handgun and held it to the 34-year-old merchant’s head in the 600 block of Eddy Street, between Polk and Larkin streets, at about 9 a.m.

A 28-year-old woman using a tablet on a Muni bus during Wednesday morning's commute was pushed by a teenager who then robbed her device, police said, but the suspect was caught after a foot chase with a cop. The robbery reportedly occurred on the 44 O’Shaughnessy line in the area of Seventh and Clarendon avenues at about 7:15 a.m.

This suspect was really a care "taker." A Daly City bank manager received praise from police for turning in a heartless caregiver earlier this month who allegedly stole money from a client -- a double amputee who uses a motorized wheelchair. About 1 p.m. May 1, police said, officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank inside of the Safeway at the Westlake Shopping Center on the fraud report.

Second shooting in Sunnydale in as many days

A vehicle carrying three people, including a 71-year-old man, was hit by a bullet in the Sunnydale neighborhood on Tuesday, the second shooting in the area in as many days. The victims, two men ages 50 and 71 and a 36-year-old woman, were driving eastbound in the 100 block of Blythedale Avenue, near Santos Street, when they saw two men in their 20s running toward them at about 6:30 p.m., police said.

Remorseless Tyler Hutchinson shocks judge

A callous killer has shocked a judge with his lack of remorse. "He's dead. Everybody dies," 25-year-old Tyler Hutchinson said about his victim, 88-year-old Albert Korn, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Hutchinson added, "I'm gonna die. You're gonna die. I don't care," Wagstaffe said. The statement helped increase Hutchinson's sentence Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Shooting victim not cooperating with cops

A 24-year-old man who was shot in the backyard of a Bayview residence Monday afternoon was not cooperating with investigators, police said Tuesday. The man reportedly suffered a bullet wound to the lower back on the first block of Latona Street, near Third Street, at about 2:50 p.m. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life threatening injuries, police said. His current condition was not immediately known.
