Crook’s toy gun foils robbery

A man’s attempt to rob a South of Market area business at gunpoint failed Tuesday when the victim realized it was a toy gun, police said.The robbery occurred around 10:16 a.m. at a business in the 900 block of Folsom Street, police said.The suspect, a man in his 40s, gave up and fled after his threat of gunplay was reduced to child’s play, police said.There have been no arrests. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was not injured, police said.

Police seek public's help in solving Lower Haight stabbing

San Francisco police are again asking the public’s help in catching Philip DiMartino’s killer.The 36-year-old marketing executive was brutally stabbed in his Lower Haight apartment on Hermann Street. A concerned co-worker visited the apartment on Aug. 2 after DiMartino, pictured, failed to arrive at work. The co-worker saw the body through a window and called police.

Woman punched for no apparent reason

A woman was the victim of a pointless punch outside the Glen Park BART station last Thursday, police said.Around 8:30 a.m., the woman told police she had surfaced from the station and was waiting for a friend to pick her up when a suspect “punched her on the face for no reason,” police said.“The victim said that as she turned in an attempt to flee the suspect, she hit her knee on a cement light post,” cops said.

Man stable after stabbing, robbery

A 22-year-old man is in stable condition after a robber stabbed him in the chest in San Francisco early Monday morning.Police are hunting three thugs in connection with the violent robbery in the 3300 block of Mission Street.At around 1:50 a.m., the suspects approached the victim and demanded his property. The victim refused and was stabbed. The thugs robbed him and fled, police said.The victim is recovering at San Francisco General Hospital.

A vicious robber who beat an elderly Daly City woman to near-death with a crowbar during a 2008 house heist is set to be sentenced Monday.Jose Perez-Gonzalez, 31, was found guilty in November on seven of eight felony counts in connection with the horrid home-invasion robbery in January 2008, according to San Mateo Country prosecutors.After beating and robbing the 77-year-old woman in her home, he fled to his native Mexico, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

A 54-year-old man was brutally attacked and robbed at New Montgomery and Market streets Friday morning, cops said.Around 4 a.m., the man was punched in the back of the head and fell to the ground, cops said. The 55-year-old brute who attacked the man kicked him while he lay on the street then went through his pockets and stole his cash, police said. Cabbie robbed after sucker punch

A cab driver got a lousy tip early Friday morning when he picked up three hooligans who had no intention of paying for their ride, cops said. The cabbie picked up the creeps, two men and a woman in their 20s, at McAllister and Steiner streets around 2:30 a.m., police said. One of the suspects punched the 54-year-old male cabbie in the face and took the cash out of his pocket, they said. The crooks then jumped out of the cab and fled, police said.
