Commuters on Thursday were steeling themselves for another day of packed BART trains, congested freeways – and still no estimate of when the Bay Bridge will open.
BART was running longer trains for the second day after a piece of the bridge failed and chunks of metal fell onto cars during Tuesday’s rush hour. It was the same cracked bar that delayed the reopening of the bridge over Labor Day weekend. The Federal Highway Administration is investigating the matter.
Heavy traffic is expected on the Golden Gate, San Mateo and Richmond bridges.
Caltrans is expected to provide an update on the bridge progress by 8:30 a.m.
