The clouds cleared just in time for the start of the 100th annual Bay to Breakers early Sunday morning.
A steady stream of serious competitors jetted for the finish line promptly 7 a.m., while hundreds of decadently costumed registrants cheered them on and jumped in from the sidelines.
Fake, pantsless police with signs that read "No smiling," coneheads, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street and so many other outrageous characters blanketed the financial district.
"I told my friends I'd only wear a kilt if no one could recognize me," said Craig Kuglen whose face was painted blue and was under a wig of dreads.
However, despite Kuglen's anticipation, he did not by any means stick out among a long flowing crowd filled with colorful characters.
