A grieving husband and the bicyclist who fatally struck his wife after running a red light in San Francisco last summer want to face each other in court, a factor that has delayed an expected plea in the case until next month, prosecutors said.
Randolph Ang, 23, has reportedly struck a plea deal with prosecutors that will lead to a significant amount of community service hours but no jail time.
During a court hearing Thursday, the case was delayed until March 12 to allow slain 68-year-old Dionette Cherney’s husband, who’s from Washington D.C., the opportunity to make a statement in a San Francisco courtroom.
Ang, who’s reportedly devastated about the accident, also wants to make a statement, according to his attorney.
Ang was rushing to get to work on time when he struck Cherney, a tourist visiting from Washington D.C., at Mission Street and The Embarcadero on July 15. Cherney fell and hit her head and died about a month later.
Ang, who has been out of custody, was charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
