BART copper bandits strike again

BART copper crooks struck again, stealing two 20 foot sections of wiring from the trackway in Oakland.

The theft was discovered Tuesday but caused no delays to the morning commute, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

BART police say they are hunting two thieves. One suspect is believed to have swiped copper twice in two days recently. On Sunday morning, a train operator had to hit the brakes to avoid striking the thief.

The thefts are not only dangerous for the thieves, they put BART at risk for fires and delays, Allison said.
