Gunshot victim found driving himself to hospital

A man was found injured after a shooting Saturday evening in East Palo Alto, but his injures were not life-threatening, police said.

Police responded to 1620 Bay Road at 8:27 p.m. after a ShotSpotter activation, an automated system for detecting gunshots, indicated there where shots fired in the area.

When they arrived, police found evidence of gunshots but no sign of a victim.

Minutes later during a traffic stop, police officers in Palo Alto discovered a 22-year-old man driving himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The man, an East Palo Alto resident, told Palo Alto police he had been shot in East Palo Alto. Officers escorted him to Stanford Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.

Police said they do not know the motive nor have any suspect information in the shooting at this time. Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call or text (650) 409-6792.
