Oakland city officials say they plan to return first aid and medical supplies taken from the Occupy Oakland encampment by police last week.

A spokeswoman for Mayor Jean Quan said Sunday evening that the city had located the supplies and planned to return them to the camp Monday morning.

A statement claiming to come from medics working at the camp was released earlier Sunday demanding the return of the supplies and threatening to occupy Quan's office if they were not returned. The person who sent out the statement has not responded to phone calls or emails.

City officials said earlier Sunday that a Saturday march of the "Occupy Oakland" demonstrators through the city's downtown district protesting alleged police brutality was mostly peaceful and free of confrontations with police.

The city is investigating some instances of vandalism and graffiti that were reported during the demonstration, mayor's spokeswoman Sue Piper said in an email Sunday.

The Oakland Fire Department is making daily fire inspections at Frank Ogawa Plaza, Piper said.

Police continue to have a minimal presence at the plaza.

The city is also investigating reports that demonstrators poured water on media reporters, Piper said.

In advance of a general strike called for Wednesday, city officials are reassuring residents that all essential city services will continue to be maintained.
