Three flights from San Diego to San Francisco International Airport were canceled this morning due to a power outage in Southern California, but regular service is resuming now that power has been restored, an airport duty manager said.
One San Francisco-bound flight each from United, Southwest and Virgin America airlines were canceled after power was knocked out to millions of people in San Diego and Orange counties and parts of Arizona and Baja California, airport duty manager Nancie Parker said.
San Diego Gas & Electric was able to restore power by 3:25 a.m. and San Diego International Airport reopened at about 4:30 a.m.
All flights out of San Francisco are operating normally this morning, Parker said.
The power outage was apparently caused by a major electric transmission system failure in western Arizona and the loss of a key connection with the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, according to SDG&E.
