Caltrain strikes, kills pedestrian in Palo Alto

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a southbound Caltrain on Thursday night.

The pedestrian was identified Friday.

The accident happened just south of the Churchill Avenue crossing in Palo Alto, the transit agency said. Traffic was not affected.

About 10:40 p.m., the train involved in the incident was moved to Caltrain’s San Jose maintenance facility.

At 11 p.m., the southbound track was opened and trains were able to operate on both tracks.

Including this one, there have been 10 fatalities on the Caltrain right of way this year.  Last year there were 11 fatalities.
