15-year-old arrested in Oakland after officer-involved shooting

A 15-year-old boy is in custody on suspicion of pointing a gun at two Oakland police officers in the parking lot of a grocery store in East Oakland late Sunday night, police said today.

Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Holly Joshi said two officers approached two males near the intersection of 38th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard around 11:45 p.m. Sunday but the pair started to run away.

In the parking lot of the nearby Lucky Market at 4055 MacArthur Blvd., the 15-year-old suspect brandished a firearm, prompting one of the officers to shoot at him, Joshi said. The officer missed and no one was injured.

The boy then surrendered to the officers and was arrested, and his loaded gun was recovered at the scene, she said.

The second suspect is still at large.
