A victim’s quick thinking may be what leads police to find the suspect in a sexual assault in Oakland on Tuesday morning.

The suspect forced his way into a home in the 900 block of Apgar Street at around 9:40 a.m.

The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was home alone. The suspect took electronic items from the residence and sexually assaulted her before running away, police said.

The woman captured a video image of the man on her cellphone before he fled. The video clearly shows the man removing items from the home and his mumbled responses can be heard as the victim asks him how he got into her home and asks him to leave.

The suspect was described as a black man in his early 40s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds. He is bald, with a medium complexion.

The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call police at (510) 637-0298.
