A SWAT team was deployed to a South San Francisco home this morning where a 45-year-old armed man was allegedly threatening to kill people, police said.
Officers went to the 600 block of Miller Avenue at about 11:45 a.m. after witnesses reported that a man was armed with a knife and making threats, according to the South San Francisco Police Department.
Arriving officers found one victim who had been assaulted and suffered a head injury, police said.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated.
The suspect, later identified as South San Francisco man Michael Gattrell, allegedly barricaded himself inside a home in the 600 block of Fourth Lane, police said.
The North County Regional SWAT Team was deployed to the location, police said, and negotiators made contact with Gattrell.
Maureen Kelly, who lives on Miller Avenue, said she saw SWAT team members dressed in full gear and snipers on a nearby roof.
Another resident of Miller Avenue said at about 1:40 p.m. that the police activity had been under way for a while and that the street was blocked off.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
Gattrell was booked at San Mateo County Jail for assault and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
