Police are hunting heartless burglars who roughed up an 80-year-old woman during a heist in San Mateo on Monday.

Two burglars, one wearing a yellow hard-hat, knocked on the door, heard no response and then broke into the home in the 400 block of Portola Drive, police said Wednesday.

The elderly resident confronted them. The thugs forced her to sit down and then assaulted her while burglarizing her home.

The woman suffered a minor injury during the heist, police said.

The suspects stole several pieces of jewelry and fled the scene in a light green or similarly colored SUV, police said.

Police searched the area for suspects to no avail. Sketches of suspects have been released.

One of the suspects was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He had a medium build and wore a yellow-hard hat, police said.

A second suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s to early 30s standing about 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He had a thin build and a neatly-trimmed goatee, police said.

Police are also hunting the driver of the getaway car.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect sketches is asked to contact Detective Egan of the San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7667.
