The outrageous, long-running saga of the youngest person charged as an adult for murder in San Mateo County history may find closure Friday.

The famous case of Josue Orozco, who was accused in a gang killing at age 14 and also for beating the murder rap by sending his goons to intimidate witnesses, was expected to enter a surprise plea on Friday, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Orozco was initially expected to enter his plea on Thursday, but the case was continued because a Spanish interpreter was not available in the courtroom, Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti said.

Orozco also famously escaped from juvenile hall in 2008, exposing weaknesses in the facility's security. He remained at large until his arrest on residential burglary charges in Texas, Wagstaffe said.

Should the case not resolve Friday, a jury trial is scheduled to begin Monday.

Orozco remains in custody.
