Viewers have been banned from the cliffs during the Mavericks surf contest this year, so the organizers announced new viewing options Thursday. The options, however, do not include the viewing at AT&T Park as in years past.

The Fox Theatre in Redwood City
The towering waves in The Jay at Maverick’s Big Wave Invitational will be available at the theater in downtown Redwood City on the 20-by-40-foot screen. There is room for 1,500 people at the location, and tickets are available at the theater’s website.

Oceano Hotel & Spa in Half Moon Bay Harbor
For the more luxurious of the viewing, and the site that is physically closest to the action, people can head down to Half Moon Bay Harbor and attend a special VIP viewing at Oceano Hotel & Spa in Half Moon Bay Harbor. There are a limited number of seats available, so interested people should call (650) 726-5400 and mention the “Jay VIP” for ticket information.

Wipeout Bar & Grill at Pier 39
Another waterfront location for surf fans will be on Pier 39 at the Wipeout Bar & Grill. Depending on the wave conditions for the event, this could be an apt-named viewing spot.

Online
For people who want to watch the surf contest from the comfort of their own homes, the contest organizers will be streaming the event online at ww.thejayatmavericks.com
and www.surfinglive.com.
