A parolee abandoned a rental car after outrunning police in Menlo Park, but forgot his identification cards in the vehicle’s middle console.

Marquese Antwan Reese, 29, of East Palo Alto, denied he was driving the car during the dim-witted getaway on March 12, but a jury on Tuesday didn’t believe him. They found him guilty of all four charges against him, including a felony for possession of ammunition by a felon, and misdemeanors for resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license and marijuana in a vehicle.

Reese stepped on the gas when a cop pulled him over in Menlo Park and approached his car. He was driving a friend’s rental car, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

He got away and abandoned the car in East Palo Alto. However, he forgot some important items. Not only did he leave his identification cards, his cell phone was on the driver’s side floorboard, Wagstaffe said.

A search of the car also uncovered 12 rounds of .357 ammunition.

Reese was arrested in October. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 7. He remains in custody on $35,000 bail.
